Alone with My Thoughts – 10/30/26

||

There are no sure things on Wall Street, but this historical statistic certainly gets your attention: since 1950, the S&P 500 has been higher 12 months after every U.S. midterm election, a perfect 19 for 19, with an average gain of roughly 15%. Of course, past performance does not guarantee future results, and every election cycle arrives with its own mix of interest rates, inflation, corporate earnings, and economic uncertainty. Still, there’s something intriguing about a batting average of 1.000. Or perhaps hockey legend Wayne Gretzky said it better: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” As we head toward another midterm election, history reminds us that markets have previously moved beyond the political uncertainty and refocused on the fundamentals. The puck is about to drop on another post-midterm period, but whether this remarkable streak becomes 20 for 20 remains to be seen. [am.jpmorgan.com], [ndtvprofit.com]
