What Is ePrep?

ePrep is a standardized test preparation company that was launched in 2007, which made it an early pioneer in the online test preparation industry. It offers students practice tests, quizzes, and video reviews to help them achieve strong scores on the following:

  • SAT
  • ACT
  • Digital SAT (DSAT)
  • Pre-ACT
  • Digital PSAT (DPSAT)
  • Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)

Unlike some of its competitors, ePrep doesn’t offer ancillary services, such as essay reviews, interview preparation, or other forms of guidance for the broader college admissions process. But while it has a fairly narrow focus, it’s also quite affordable compared with other test preparation companies. And it’s a lot cheaper than working with college admissions consultants.

What Does ePrep Offer?

ePrep provides a broad range of test preparation materials that can be accessed via its web application or downloaded for working offline. It also offers mobile apps for Android and iOS, although these are only available for ACT test prep.

The company’s courses simulate what students experience in the tests, helping them approach their test day with confidence. Some of the courses’ key features include:

Scheduler And Timeline

ePrep’s online scheduler is the hub for students preparing for their important tests. After inputting your test date and available study days, the Home Room section of ePrep’s platform instantly populates with a personalized study schedule. This feature simplifies the planning process, ensuring you're on track for success.

The timeline feature of ePrep is another essential asset. It visually represents study progress, helping you track what you've accomplished. Regularly checking your timeline can keep you focused and motivated as you prepare for your test day.

Exam Room

ePrep's Exam Room offers full-length practice tests that can be taken either online or offline. Students can complete these tests all at once or in sections. The platform displays a grid that tracks actual scores and target scores, allowing students to monitor their progress.

In the Graded Exam Rooms, ePrep provides video explanations for each question on the practice tests. These rooms also include links to videos focused on specific subjects and test-taking strategies aimed at supplementing the learning process.

Quizzes

ePrep offers quizzes for students with limited study time, such as 15 or 20 minutes. These quizzes are designed to accommodate brief study sessions, providing an efficient way to practice. They also enable students to concentrate on specific areas of difficulty, including algebra, geometry, grammar, or punctuation.

Study Hall

ePrep's Study Hall addresses areas of weakness in a student's test preparation by analyzing data from practice tests. Based on this analysis, the Study Hall recommends targeted videos on subject matter that the student struggles with and provides test strategies relevant to the identified weaknesses.

After engaging with the Study Hall videos, students are encouraged to apply their newly acquired knowledge. This can be done by taking a new test or completing quizzes focused on specific subjects, providing an opportunity to apply and reinforce what they have learned practically.

Score Improvement Guarantees

ePrep offers score improvement guarantees for its ACT and SAT courses. Students who complete the Premium edition of ePrep for the ACT are guaranteed at least a 4-point increase in their composite ACT score, provided their first ACT test score was lower than 26. While the 4-point increase guarantee is comparable with offers from competitors, the maximum baseline score to qualify for that guarantee is lower than the maximum baseline set by some competitors.

Students who complete the Premium edition of ePrep’s SAT course are guaranteed a minimum 250-point increase in their composite SAT scores, which is higher than the SAT score increases guaranteed by competitors like Prep Expert. This guarantee, however, only applies to students who scored less than 1150 on their first SAT test. Again, some competitors have higher baseline scores for their score improvement guarantees.

How Does ePrep Compare?

There are a number of test prep companies operating in the U.S., and it’s a good idea to look at some of ePrep’s top competitors before deciding on the company that’s right for you.

Kaplan Test Prep: Kaplan claims to be the oldest test preparation company in the U.S., and it provides test preparation for a broader range of standardized tests than ePrep, like Advanced Placement (AP), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Another feature that distinguishes Kaplan from ePrep is that Kaplan offers a free PSAT prep course, which can be a game-changer for families on a budget.

PrepScholar: PrepScholar goes beyond test prep and also features admissions counseling support and college essay help. Its test prep pricing is slightly higher than ePrep’s prices, but unlike with ePrep, you can get a sense of whether or not PrepScholar is a good fit for you by trying one of its free trials for select SAT, ACT, or PSAT prep packages.

How Do I Open An Account?

You can open an account with ePrep by providing your name and email address, creating a password, and choosing whether you want to take an SAT or ACT course. ePrep will then send you a full-length digital SAT or ACT diagnostic test to complete.

After you’ve finished the test, you’ll be provided with a discount code to use when you purchase your full-length prep course.

Is It Safe And Secure?

ePrep collects your personal information when you register for a diagnostic test or purchase a full-length course. The company states in its privacy policy that it takes “measures that are both customary and commercially reasonable” to safeguard its clients’ privacy and that it uses password-protected and firewall-secured networks and databases to store clients’ data. The site does not collect personally identifiable information from users under the age of thirteen.

That said, ePrep also notes that it may “share Your Personal Information with third parties that are in the business of providing products or services that we think may be of interest to you.” You can, however, opt out of receiving promotional or marketing information.

How Do I Contact ePrep?

ePrep courses are self-service online software products, but you can still seek help if you’re struggling with a technical issue. You can reach ePrep by email at [email protected], and the company’s phone number is 877-377-3744. There’s also a chat support feature on ePrep’s website.

ePrep has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, with only one complaint in the last three years.

Is It Worth It?

ePrep is for self-motivated students who want to score well on their first attempt at a college entrance exam or improve on recent scores. It’s not exactly cheap, but it falls into the “budget” category of test prep options and costs less than many competitors. And ePrep’s relatively low price point is noteworthy given its impressive score improvement guarantees, particularly for those who plan to take the SAT.

If you’re trying to keep test prep expenditures to a minimum and you’re comfortable with a degree of autodidacticism, you might start your standardized test prep journey with ePrep.
