- You may or may not know that in February of last year @vivitron, @moneywithshane, and I launched a business called Nectarine! I hate corporate speak, but it truly is “mission driven”. I’ve been so fed up with the state of financial advice that I felt compelled to do what I can to fix it! MOST of the time when you want to talk to a financial advisor they are going to sell you commissioned products or want to manage your investments for an annual compounding fee. If you just want UNBIASED EXPERT ADVICE, it was really hard to find. That’s why we started Nectarine!
So when someone said “he’s just monetizing his audience”, that offended me. If I wanted to “monetize my audience” (more stupid corporate speak) I’d be pushing affiliate deals from banks and credit cards. There’s a lot of money in that, so it’s a great “monetize an audience”. But that has never been what Nectarine is about. (As evidence, my cumulative net take home from Nectarine so far, including salary, draws, etc is $0).
It’s fun to see how far Nectarine has already come in this short time. When someone signs up for a session with a financial advisor (as over 5,000 have so far) we ask them how they heard about us. In the early days, it was all PFC. But this month, it’s pretty rare someone says PFC. It’s basically transformed to all organic growth! How exciting! And sales haven’t taken a hit. In fact, July, a traditionally slow summer month for financial planning, was a huge record for us. August is trending well too.
So, to whatever internet commenter said that 18 months ago, you were WRONG. HA! But the good news is Nectarine IS already changing the face of financial advice and helping a lot of people!
Have you tried @hello_nectarine yet? If you went to an advisor, would you want to pay a flat-fee, an annual percentage of your assets, or be sold commissioned products?
