Linnea is a real person. You can find her at @linnealee91 !
Linnea was born in China and abandoned at birth. When she was about a month old, her foster grandma, despite not having much, took her in along with other foster children. This woman taught Linnea an invaluable lesson about generosity that would stay with her forever.
Due to financial reasons, Linnea was sent to the orphanage at age 5. Since she had no family or possessions, her nannies and schoolmates treated her like she was worthless.
Linnea was adopted at age 14 and moved to the US. This was hard on her, but she had access to therapy to process what was going on. Growing up with nothing, she wanted her own money, so she got a job at age 15. She was also lucky to learn about personal finance in high school and knew the importance of investing early.
In 2013, Linnea got married. With a combined income of $39K they still put a small amount toward retirement. She also made sure to support her foster grandma, by visiting and buying her everything she needs. Her grandma got her first refrigerator at age 70!
Unfortunately, in 2015, her foster grandma had a stroke and passed. Linnea gratefully had the means to visit her in China one last time and also paid for all of her medical bills. They’ve even supported her grandma’s biological granddaughter throughout college.
In 2019, Linnea and her husband bought a home for $257K after saving up $52K for a down payment.
Today, Linnea is 30 and is a mother of two. She and her husband make a combined six figure income. They donate 15% of their income, invest $1,500/month toward their retirement and kids’ 529 accounts, and plan to pay off the house by 2026. Despite increases in income, their expenses have stayed the same.
Their goal is not just to have money to live comfortably, but as she learned from her grandma, to be generous and give to others who are in need.

As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often.
