When studying for a college admissions exam, the more practice questions you can take, the better. Practice questions familiarize you with the types of questions you can expect on test day.

They also help you identify topics you might be weak on so you can develop a broader test prep strategy.

Uworld Test Prep helps students prepare for standardized tests by giving them access to questions that are similar to those that are on common admissions exams. Their goal is to make difficult concepts easier to understand.

Should you use Uworld Test Prep to study for the SAT or ACT? We’ll dive into the company, what they offer, and whether or not their test prep method makes sense for you.

What Is Uworld Test Prep?

Uworld is a test prep company that provides study materials for various standardized tests, including the SAT and ACT exams. The company aims to make the material easy to understand so that by the time test day comes, you have the confidence you need to ace the test.

Uworld was created in 2001 by Dr. Chandra Pemmasani in his college dorm room. Looking for a more effective way to help students study for their medical licensing exams, Dr. Pemmasani began publishing study questions to help others prepare for their exams. Now the company offers a variety of test prep material ranging from high school exams to professional licensing exams.

What Does Uworld Test Prep Offer?

Uworld offers test prep material for a number of admissions exams, including the ACT, SAT, and MCAT. It also offers study guides for specific exams, such as high school AP exams and a full bar review for law students.

Uworld’s bread and butter is test prep questions which it refers to as QBanks. These questions are written to mimic the types of questions students can expect to see come test day.

Digital SAT

By 2024, the College Board plans to move from a paper-based test to a fully digital test. Uworld offers a course specifically for this transition to help students make the move.

Uworld's user interface is similar to what the new Digital SAT will look like. Students get access to more than 1,000+ realistic questions put together by the Uworld team, which includes subject matter experts who bring more than two decades' worth of test prep experience.

Each question comes with an explanation of why an answer is right or wrong. This is designed to help students retain information so that by the time test day comes, they have the confidence they need to perform at their best.

The study materials in the Digital SAT program are customizable. Students can choose how many questions they will practice each day. From there, they can create flashcards to help them retain information and set practice timers to mimic the conditions they can expect to experience during the test.

Students who use Uworld’s study materials can access the course from their computer or from their phone, making it easy to study wherever they are. The program is offered in 30, 90, 180, or 360-day increments. This gives students the flexibility to choose how much time they need to prepare for the exam and allows them to choose a plan that fits within their budget.

ACT

Similar to the Digital SAT, Uworld offers study materials for the ACT. Students get access to more than 3,200+ review questions. The questions are modeled after the ACT and tend to be more difficult than what you’ll likely find come test day.

Students get explanations for all questions to learn why they got a question right or wrong. This includes visual models and step-by-step reviews to help students retain more information.

Each student who enrolls in the ACT program will also have the opportunity to take self-assessments, simulating taking the ACT. These assessments and the practice questions can help students predict how they’ll perform come test day. The Uworld platform makes it easy to identify trouble spots and offers recommendations for areas to improve on.

Just like the Digital SAT, students studying for the ACT will have the opportunity to purchase access to Uworld’s materials in 30, 60, 180, and 360-day increments.

Other Exams

Aside from the Digital SAT and ACT, Uworld provides study materials for a variety of other exams, including AP exams, the MCAT, and the bar exam.

For these exams, Uworld offers question banks to study the material before the exam. Each membership comes with performance tracking to help students understand how well they’re performing and where they’ll likely score come test day.

Are There Any Fees?

Uworld offers membership plans to its QBanks ranging from 60 days of access all the way up to 360 days.

Uworld offers separate pricing for renewals. With a renewal, students retain access to the study material and their performance. Students can renew their Digital SAT membership for:

  • 30 days for $25
  • 60 days for $40
  • 180 days for $60
  • 360 days for $80

ACT memberships can be renewed for 30 days for $25. There isn’t an option to renew for students purchasing a combination of both the Digital SAT and ACT prep materials.

Advanced education material and professional licensing exams are more expensive. The MCAT, for example, costs $249 to $349, depending on the length of access selected at checkout.

How Does Uworld Test Prep Compare?

UWorld is one of several affordable SAT and ACT prep services on the market.

Higher Scores Test Prep offers self-paced SAT and ACT prep courses. With prices starting at $187, its more expensive than Uworld. They do have an interesting offer for students who are feeling the time crunch to study for exams. Higher Scores SAT/ACT Quick Prep program is designed to be completed in as little as 10 days. It's essentially a shorter version of their Complete Package program.

College Prep Genius is another affordable SAT/ACT test prep company. They offer a self-paced eCourse, live training via a virtual bootcamp, and in-person classes at select locations around the U.S. Prices range from $189 to $445 per course.

Customer Service
Uworld is a BBB-accredited business with an A+ rating. It has a 2.8/5 star rating on Trustpilot, with most complaints concerning account access and renewals, not necessarily the company’s study materials. However, the rating is only based on 6 reviews, so don't place to much weight on the results.

Is Uworld Test Prep Worth It?

Uworld’s approach to focusing on exam questions is unique in the test prep space. Rather than committing to a self-paced course or an in-person class, students can practice study questions on their own.

Uworld scores well on its affordability, and we like the various study materials they offer, especially the focus on exam practice questions. But the fact that you have no access to human support via counselors, tutoring, or live classes is a drawback and is reflected in our rating. It would be nice to have an option to ask questions if you need additional help in a specific area.

Also, we could not locate any reported success rates on the Uworld website or via an independent online source. This is also reflected in our score.

Overall, if affordability is your top concern, then Uworld should be on your shortlist. Just remember that there are other low cost options for students to choose from.
