What is the most important factor to consider when investing?

||

Don’t get me wrong. I’m an academic at heart and a money nerd so I love to geek out on all the stuff on the left hand side. But if you do everything on the left PERFECTLY and only invest ten bucks a month, you’re not gonna make much money. On the other hand, if you do the stuff on the left hand side just mediocre and are plowing $1,000 per month away for a few decades, you’re rich.⁣‎‎
⁣‎‎
Roth vs traditional? Which index fund? When to rebalance? Target date index fund vs 3-fund portfolio? How low is “low enough” for an expense ratio? Invest weekly or monthly? Those are all questions I love to discuss (and the answers to which are peppered throughout my page). But at the end of the day it really doesn’t matter much. So don’t get stuck on those details.‎‎
‎‎
Read a book on investing. Watch some youtube vids on index funds. Go through my “how to invest” story highlight, guide, or course. Those will all get you to about the same place. The only devastating thing to do is nothing (or get caught up in an MLM or bitcoin/forex scheme).‎‎
‎‎
So don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. Plow your money into investment accounts and don’t let wanting the investment strategy to be perfect stop you from getting started.⁣‎‎
⁣‎‎
As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often.⁣‎‎
